--------------- The Vapor is Gaastra’s full racing sail. It is a no compromise design that undergoes continuous development work throughout the year. As soon as the 2012 model was finished and put in production we continued designing new ideas and further evolving the concepts we started working on 2 years ago.
The latest 2012 model has proven itself on the race course with the best racers in the world. Ross Williams had several top 5 finishes and the Vapor continues to combine speed, rapid acceleration and ease of use into the build parameters. For 2013 we have further enhanced the acceleration as well as the top end. We have combined a new outline, altered batten configuration as well as luffcurve, utilizing our trademark racing cambers, SAS sleeve, C-Film, Radial panel layout, aerodynamic boom cutout closure to produce our greatest racing sail to date, one that we are very proud of.
First we started working on new outlines with higher clew positions and a narrower head to reduce the swing weight during the jibes. To compensate for that we had 2 options, lengthening the luff or lengthening the boom, we chose the latter as a longer mast has also a negative swing weight and it helped to bring some more natural power and acceleration to the sails. Next step was to improve the leech twist and tension patterns. We have been looking for a smoother twist with a more open lower and mid leech. We also wanted to push the profile more forward and to have a flatter mid aft section of the sailbody. For that we heavily reworked the luff curve numbers and shaping points in the seams, further refining the batten positioning and angles.
One thing the team really wanted was a lighter sail. We achieved this by eliminating excess material from the sails, without affecting durability, eliminating the inset clew and developing new lighter back ends for the tube battens. Many prototype rounds have been tested by our international team during the whole season around the world.
We have found our groove. After 2 years all of us on the team are speaking the same language and it shows in our performance on the race course. Now days if you don't have fast gear, your talent alone will not get you on the box. You have to be dialed and I am always impressed with Peter's drive to get us going faster and faster.
Bottom Line:
The Vapor sails are the cleanest most advanced race sails built by Gaastra to date! We choose winning! If your goal is the same the new Vapor will take you there!
